Maui Deep Sea Fishing - Share

From the convenience of Maalaea Harbor, for anyone staying in the South and Central Maui resort areas, Rascal Charters offers Maui deep sea sportfishing charters targeting marlin, mahi mahi, ono, ahi and other big game fish. You'll board a deluxe, 43ft Bertram, the Rascal; a clean, comfortable, fully outfitted, and FAST vessel!  This tour takes only 6 fishermen on each tour to ensure everyone will receive personal attention and more actual fishing time!!

Four types of Hawaii game fish are targeted: Marlin (including Pacific Blue, striped and spearfish/shortbilled marlin), Ahi (yellowfin tuna), Ono (wahoo), and Mahi Mahi (dolphin fish). These can range in size from a small, 8 pound juvenile mahi mahi to an 800 lb. blue marlin.... or maybe bigger! Occasionally, other species are caught, such as Snappers, Jacks and other incidental catches.

Most of all fish here in Hawaii is caught high speed trolling (8-9 knots). Depending on the fishing conditions, live and dead bait are used (Or whatever it takes that day to make 'em bite!)

You will not need a license to go sportfishing on Maui. Captain and crew are required to have a commercial fishing licence, so you, as a passenger, are covered under your crew's license.

Part of your crews' incentive to work hard is the potential to make money from fish sales. We don't want to take that incentive away, however you as a passenger will be taken care of first. Those  staying in a home or condominium with cooking facilities, will receive cut up fish for one or two awesome fish dinners, depending on the amount of fish caught. On shareboats,  a portion of the day's catch will be cut up for all passengers, regardless of who caught the fish. This is a fair policy that has brought NO complaints. again, taking care of YOU first.

ABOUT THE VESSEL
The Rascal is a 43ft. Bertram Sportfisher maintained to the highest standards. She is fully equipped with all the gear you'll need to land the fish of a lifetime! Powered by twin Detroit 6V-92's inboard diesel engines, The Rascal's cruising speed is about 22 knots, while trolling is usually done at about 8-9 knots. For those wanting a little time out of the sun, portions of the back deck are shaded, and our main cabin is air-conditioned and carpeted, with a full galley, comfortable seating and entertainment center.

IS THIS A GOOD ACTIVITY FOR KIDS?
You need to have a lot of patience for sportfishing. Sometimes you hook up right off the bat and the day is one long-filled adventure, and other times you don't hook up at all. Patience is important, and many kids just don't have it. Just keep it in mind, every kid is different. For children under 10, we recommend a private charter.

Due to the popularity of fishing tours and the few who can enjoy it at any given time (this charter in particular takes only 6 passengers), not to mention the number of private charters booked on a regular basis, we recommend you making reservation well in advance; over Christmas, New Years, Spring Break, and around Halloween, when the Lahaina Jackpot tournament is underway, fishing charters get booked out months in advance.  If making your reservation online please be sure to add comments showing your arrival and departure dates, etc.  You can also call our reservation lines at 1-800-350-3849 and speak to a live concierge, who can check fishing availability during your Maui vacation.

- Ice chest (with ice) for your food and drinks

Please bring your own snacks, lunch and beverages, and please... NO BANANAS (considered BAD LUCK among Hawaii fishermen)!!! Also, please keep in mind NO GLASS will be allowed, so if bringing beer, bring them in cans, not bottles.
