MAUI ACTIVITIES -  Break away from the crowds and experience  the road to Hana, a gorgeous, winding coastal road with breathtaking valleys, lush rain forests and spectacular waterfalls aboard Mahalo Tours luxurious Mercedes Benz or Ford Vans, which features a small group, with a maximum of eight lucky participants. You will enjoy an unhurried Hawaiian adventure guided by an authentic Hawaiian host.

Mahalo Tours is owned and operated by a Hawaiian family who cherishes the opportunity to show you their home, and wants to make sure every guest will not only get the opportunity to learn about Hawaii and enjoy its beauty, but will also fall in love with its culture and history. You will be taken on this unforgettable journey by a true Hawaiian host, who is also an entertainer, and who can't wait to show you the beauty and warmth of the Hawaiian hospitality and give you some laughs while at it!

Your day will start with a pick up at your hotel, condo or cruise ship. You'll board a luxury Mercedes Benz Van, where you'll ride in comfort and style, with a much smaller group than most other Hana tours out there. You'll be offered some Hawaiian treats to sweeten your ride, make several stops and see some of the most beautiful spots on Maui while learning its history, legends and more! This is the only small group tour that will take you around the entire East/South side of Maui taking only up to 8 passengers.

Be careful not to fill up on every delicious Hawaiian bread, cake and fruit offered to you on your way, as a delicious hot lunch will be served in Hana. Your meal will be prepared, while you wait, by a local Hana resident and world renowned Tahitian chef, who has prepared his signature dishes for several celebrities and dignitaries through the years. You'll get to choose from several dish selections available daily, such as ribs, chicken, steak, fresh island fish, shrimp pasta, vegetarian and vegan, so don't you worry... you won't go hungry!!!

As you continue through Maui's North Shore, you'll get to the world famous Ho`okipa Beach Park., a breath-taking white sand beach which boasts perfect wind-surfing conditions. On your drive by through Huelo, you will be entranced with its history, adorned with vistas of bamboo, remarkable cliffs, and exceptional ocean views that certainly qualify as breathtaking!

Half way to Hana is the small community of Keanae, where you'll get to step into the past. Located on an peninsula which is an old lava flow, it is graced by the Keanae Congregational Church, built in 1860 of lava rocks and coral mortar. There you'll get another opportunity to entice your taste buds as you feast on the best banana bread in the Hawaiian islands and possibly catch a view of the honu, Hawaiian sea turtles.

On your next stop, you'll get a “bird’s eye” view at the Keanae lookout that will take your breath away, with its panoramic views of the Keanae peninsula and its taro fields.

And just as you thought you could not get any more awed by the beauty of your adventure, you'll arrive at Honokalani Beach, a gorgeous black sand beach at Waianapanapa State Park. This magnificent beach is set among lava cliffs and the sand is actually small, smooth, lava pebbles. A small sea arch, sea caves, and seaside lava tubes are located right on the beach. An ancient Hawaiian footpath leads to the beach area which appears like a vivid dream, with bright green jungle foliage on three sides and cobalt blue water lapping at its feet. It's just Spectacular!
Your next stops: The famous Hana Town! Hamoa Beach, a long strand of soft grey sand tucked between lava rock outcroppings, in the shape of a half-moon; Koki Beach overlook, where you will see a red hill (which is actually an eroding cinder cone) known as Ka Iwi o Pele, meaning "the bones of Pele". At the base of the cone is the only red sand beach in all of Hawaii. From this vantage point, you can also get an excellent view directly offshore of `Alau Island, a seabird sanctuary with a 150-foot summit, topped by swaying coconut palms.

You'll be going by O`heo Gulch, AKA “The Seven Sacred Pools”, located in the Kipahulu area of Haleakala National Park, stop at Charles A. Lindbergh's grave and Kipahulu Church. Kaupo district, and its rugged coastline, desert-like landscape, and unpaved roads where you will think you are in the latest Indiana Jones adventure!

Lastly, stop at Maui's only winery, Tedeschi Vineyards, to learn about the different wines and indulge in some of their unique wine flavors in the tasting room. There, you'll get the chance to cross the street to visit and shop at the Ulupalakua Ranch Store and explore the old days of the Paniolo (Hawaiian Cowboy).

David our driver was awesome. He did a excellent job. The lunch was incredible. My wife raved about how good it was. This was our honeymoon and thanks to Mahalo tours we had a great time. Again I personally want to thank David for his professional way he conducted the lovely day on beautiful Maui. I have told many of my friends about your tour and the fun we had.

Mahalo Tour's Road to Hana tour is definitely the way to travel the road to (and from) Hana. Our Tour Guide, Josh, was amazing! He is incredibly personable, funny, and attentive. He really loves Maui, and it definitely shows. The tour started by being picked up at my condo complex, and then continued for almost 12 hours of great scenery, excellent (LOCAL) foods and fruits, quite a bit of learning, and a lot of humor. Josh worked hard to make our day extra-special. He was constantly providing us samples of local fruits (pineapple, papaya, strawberries). He would go above and beyond to help us experience the real Maui. For example, he would ask if anyone has tasted apple bananas... answer was no... so he pulls off at a roadside stand and comes back with these amazing bananas. Then he asks if anyone has had guava... again answer no... next thing we know we have stopped and he is out picking guava off a tree for us to try. This happened with several different fruits. It really was amazing. He knows so much about the island and culture and enjoys sharing his knowledge. He was patient with all of our restroom and picture stops - and he is a great photographer too! I could go on and on about this tour, but you have to experience it yourself. The small group (we had 7), comfortable vans, tasty food, excellent tour guide/driver really made it a spectacular trip. It truly was one of the best tours I have ever done. I also want to thank Kawai for his shuttle service back to my condo. He is truly amazing as well. In the short trip back, I learned all about the different music of Hawaii, Tahiti, Samoa, etc. Then to top it off, he gives me the CD so I can continue to listen to the music. He completely embodies the Aloha spirit. All in all, I can't say enough about Josh, Kawai, and Mahalo tours. Mahalo and Aloha!

Just PERFECT!!! My boyfriend and I had lots of fun during the tour to Hana. It was really good from the Hotel pick-up to drop-off. Our tour guide was cousin K. We got to see many nice places and we also realized that other tours companies do not show to their guests what cousin K showed us. It was not only about beautiful places to take pictures of, but also a fun trip, entertaining, and interesting (they are real Hawaiians and they know what they are saying). I cannot finish this review without mentioning cousin Kawai who did the shuttle for us and was very nice to take us to see some other places on the island even though he did not have to...ah...almost forgot to say that the lunch we had during this tour to Hana was the best bbq chicken I have ever had in my life :)

The Road to Hana tour is a NECESSITY to fully experience some of the very best of Maui's charms! It is a great way to see the parameter of the island. We opted for the approximate 11 hour long tour (continuing on the non-paved road, including the arid side of the island, past the winery.) Being a thrill-seeker, I always want to experience it ALL. In retrospect, turning around at Charles Lindberg's grave would have been just fine. We VERY much enjoyed the wet / tropical side of the island with the beautiful plants, flowers, beaches, & waterfalls. Bring your camera, good walking shoes, & water. Beach wear for some would be also be appropriate. Do yourself a big favor -- book a tour with Mahalo Tours & leave the driving / responsibility to them -- this way, you can just ENJOY. Mahalo Tours uses smaller buses, so the approach is more personal & enjoyable. In addition, all food / snacks they serve you are specialties from Maui. My mother has an extreme food allergy, which Mahalo Tours readily accomodated. Kawai was AWESOME! He was instrumental in helping us plan a good bit of our first visit to Maui. His patience with a vast amount of questions, as well as his knowledge was so very much appreciated. We found the lovely Aloha Spirit all over the four islands we visited, but NO ONE was more personable or accomodating than Kawai. He truly went the extra mile for us in various ways. We appreciate him, & hope to enjoy him as our driver next time we visit.

We just returned from a Mahalo Tour to Hana. At first we thought we could simply drive it ourselves but decided to do something unusual for us and try a tour. Not liking "tours" very much this was a big decision for us and as it turned out, a very good one. We arranged a day tour with Mahalo Tours and we couldn't have made a better choice. Our driver, Nate, was personable, entertaining and knowledgeable but even more than that, his first concern was the safety and comfort of his passengers. And we always felt safe and comfortable in his capable hands. The van we traveled in was very comfortable and roomy. We were treated to juices, water, fruit, muffins and the most delicious dinner (have the chicken) at a rustic roadside food stand. It may have helped that we shared the van with delightful fellow travelers but the experience was significantly better than if we had been behind the wheel on the twisty squiggly roads with all the traffic, suffering the stress of passing on single lane roads and being too busy watching who's coming around the hairpin turns to enjoy the beauty that is everywhere on the road to Hana and beyond. The road to Hana is everything it's advertised to be but, in my opinion, as you pass Hana and come through Hamoa, Kipahulu, Kaupo and Ulupakakua on the way home the views only get better and better as the road gets worse and worse. I am a very nervous passenger (just ask my poor husband) but there wasn't one moment of concern even when we were looking straight down the side of the van into the crashing surf. Nate was extremely careful and considerate at all times. We would highly recommend Mahalo Tours and if you get lucky enough to have Nate as your driver, ask him for his recipes. He is a wealth of island legend and lore as well as how to make a good baked salmon. Mahalo Mahalo Tours and Nate! Anita and Peter Welker, Ontario Canada.
